'Get ready for the break up,' warns top Belgian minister

Split-BegiumAlthough we are all led to believe that ethnic separatism and state disintegrations are processes exclusively tied to the Balkans, and that such a things ‘never happen’ to the North-Western European countries, many examples point to different reality. Belgium is certainly the strongest such example, but as we saw from the recent Basks' separatist video statement, not the only one. Surprisingly, despite the EU integrations, these separatist movements are getting stronger and even starting to gain momentum in places where they were previously so weak, as in the case of Scotland. When it comes to Belgium, the separatist tendencies are slowly but surely reaching the boiling point and future for the central EU state looks very bleak.

Roma_childrenIn scenes reminiscent of the Nazi German occupation, French police rounded up almost 1000 Romani people (sometimes called Gypsies) in August and deported them to Romania and Bulgaria.

The mass deportations were foreshadowed by President Nicolas Sarkozy in July in a series of inflammatory speeches in which he accused Romani people of being in an “unacceptable situation of lawlessness” linked to “illicit trafficking, deeply unworthy living conditions and exploitation of children for begging, prostitution or crime”.

mn_srebrenica105On July 11th the Dutch team will play in the World Cup final against the Spain. On that day in 1995, Dutch troops failed to protect Bosnian Muslims who entrusted them with their lives in the UN Safe Heaven zone of Srebrenica. The game will take 90 minutes during which the Dutch soccer players will try to bring the pride for their country; in Srebrenica Dutch soldiers brought eternal shame to their country by failing to perform their soldier's duty and to protect over 8 000 boys and men from the barbarian Serbian killers. But it is not only the Dutch who are to carry the shame for this barbarism. The killing of all those people, European Muslims, took over two weeks, while the European neighbors and other world ‘powers’ were watching and doing nothing to stop the slaughter. Now Bosnian Muslims are trying to keep the day when that slaughter started, July 11, 1995, remembered and commemorated to remind themselves and others of what and how the murder happen and who took part in it.
